We are one of the few merchants that enable you to pick-out a specific cowhide online. And, we have more experience with cowhides than most of our competitors. Why does Brazil produce the best cowhides?
The tanning of cowhides involves generations of experience, and expensive technology. Many leather experts will tell you that the finest leather producers are located in Brazil and Italy because they have developed tanning processes that allow for durable, long lasting leather. Brazil specializes in producing soft hair-on cowhides that perserve hair quality, and vibrant colors.
What are the actual dimensions?
The dimensions of each cowhide are specified when you select a cowhide. We measure from the closest two points down the center of the cowhide for the length measurement. A large hide typically measures up to 6 by 6 feet at its widest. An extra large hide is 6 by 7 feet, and up to 6.5 by 8 feet.
Can you match multiple cowhides for upolstery projects?
Yes. Call, or e-mail us with your requirements. We also take custom orders for specific hides if photos can be provided. 50% deposit is only required after both parties mutually agree to delivery date. Some custom orders can take 6 to 8 weeks to fulfill.
Is your web site secure?
This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. All orders are transmitted over secure Internet connections using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption technology. All of your personal information including your credit card information are stored in encrypted format at all times. Yes. You may contact us by completing the Customer Information Request form on the Contact page.
Do you offer discounts to the trade?
We offer discounts for volume purchasing. We can offer a form of a discount if a designer is easy to work with and they only order one item. Credentials are required.
What type of cowhide might look good in a room?
Pick colors that blend nicely in a room. Herefords and Brown/White clouds work nicely in rooms with any brown, or natural coloring. Hosteins (Black and white) work nicely in Asian influenced, or contemperary settings. Tri-colors are good if you need contrast. Brindles work with almost every scenery. Also, dark brindles with mohogany and black coloring always look better in real life verses a photo.
Are solid white cowhide rare?
Few solid white cowhides are offered because most are used for stenciled prints. We are sometimes able to stock one or two solid white cowhides.
Why not offer U.S. hair-on cowhides?
We would offer U.S. tanned hair-on cowhides if we could. Leather producers in the U.S. have historically specialized in hair-off leather for consumer items. U.S. chrome tanned hair-on cowhides are simply not produced because chromium allotments have historically been used for hair-off leather. The technolgy and workmanship necessary for quality hair-on tanning have not been developed in the U.S.. Also, breeds are tightly controled in the U.S. which means that most cowhides would not have diverse coloring.
